Issuance of Foreign Exchange for Travel

Definition: Sri Lankans residing in Sri Lanka who wish to travel abroad for leisure, holidays, sports, recreational and cultural activities, visits to relatives and friends, pilgrimage, business purposes, training, medical reasons, or studying

i.   Obtaining Foreign Exchange

1. From Banks (Authorized Dealers)

• Foreign Currency Notes: Up to USD 5,000 as part of the travel allowance.
• Other Forms: Balance can be obtained via bank drafts or Foreign Travel Cards.
• Foreign Currency Accounts: Withdraw up to USD 5,000 from personal foreign currency accounts.

2. From Money Changers (Restricted Dealers who are granted the permit for money changing):

• Foreign Currency Notes: Up to USD 5,000.
• Requirements: Passport, valid visa (if needed), return air ticket, and proof of travel purpose etc. as required by the money changer.
